Woman strangulated to death by in-laws for dowry in Odisha’s Balangir

Patnagarh: A woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her in-laws over dowry demand in Odisha’s Balangir district. The deceased, identified as Rashmita Bag was a resident of Radabahal village under Belpada police limits.

As per a complaint filed by the family members of Rashmita following her death, she was married to Ramakrushna Kumbhar of Radabahala village on February 28, 2018. Since the day of her marriage, in-laws of Rashmita had been demanding a four-wheeler and a gold chain.

When Rashmita told her parents about the dowry demand, they pacified her and in-laws. Her family members alleged on several occasions earlier she was beaten up for a four-wheeler and a gold chain.
The complaint further stated, on Friday evening, her in-laws again beat up Rashmita and strangulated her to death.

After getting information about Rashmita’s death, her family members visited Radabahal and lodged a police complaint today.

Post mortem of the body was done at Patnagarh hospital. Police investigation is on into the matter.
