Woman teacher hacked to death by son in Odisha

Paradip: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly killed his mother over unknown reason here in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Sulochana Dei, a teacher posted at Srimaa Government High School in Paradeep Garh, and the resident of Bhutamundai village on outskirts of Paradeep town.

According to reports, Sulochana had two sons. Her youngest son Ansuman Behera, who was said to be suffering from mental illness and under medication for the ailment, was taking her to school and dropping her at home regularly.

Sources said Ansuman attacked her mother with a bill hook while she was combing her hair in the morning. She died on the spot.

“Ansuman lost his mental stability during the period of pursuing his Engineering degree. He was undergoing treatment for it. The family was financially sound and there was no feud at all. All the family members had gathered yesterday at home for death anniversary of their grandmother. After the function, all left, but Ansuman was there. He hacked his mother to death with a bill hook for unknown reason,” said the deceased woman’s cousin Gunanidhi Behera.

Police arrested the accused son and initiated probe into the incident.
