Woman tortured, sexually assaulted by father-in-law for ‘infertility’ in Odisha

Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly tortured and sexually assaulted by father-in-law for not being able to become a mother.

The incident was reported from Itamundali village under Mahanga police station in Cuttack district of Odisha.

According to reports, Choudhury Mahendra Das, a resident of Itamundali village, had been harassing his daughter-in-law both physically and mentally since a few years. He blamed her for not procreating child.

On Friday, the accused attempted to rape his daughter-in-law after calling her in his room. In order to save herself, the victim shouted following which her husband Sarada Prasad reached the room for rescue. However, the savage man assaulted his son and daughter-in-law physically after a failed rape bid.

Following the incident, the victim couple filed a complaint with the Mahanga police against the accused. They threatened self-immolation if the justice was denied to them.

“We have received a complaint from the victims and lodged an FIR against the accused. We are investigating the matter. However, no arrest has been made yet,” said Mahanga Police Station IIC Ranjan Kumar Parida.
