Peeved over acute drinking water shortage in their village hundreds of women of Oranda village under Athgarh block in Odisha’s Cuttack district today took to the streets and blocked National Highway no. 55 near their village.

Women and children with empty buckets and pitchers in their hands sat on NH 55 near Oranda disrupting movement of traffic on the Manguli-Dhenkanal section of the highway.

Reports said the women took to the streets since the administration which had promised to solve the acute water crisis in the area within 15 days had failed on its promise.

However, the women vacated the blockade following the intervention of Athgarh sub-collector who promised to solve the problem very soon.
