Women take out rally at Odisha’s Sundargarh to protest against Manipur violence

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of women today took out a massive rally at Sundargarh town in Odisha to protest against the alleged violence against tribal women in Manipur.

The women under the banner of Sundargarh Mahila Forum criticized the Centre and Manipur government for their alleged failure to take stern action against the people involved in the disrobing and rape of two women of Kuki (tribal) community in the northeastern state.

The agitators alleged that the Centre and Manipur government have turned mute spectator to the alleged violence against the tribal women. The Centre and the Manipur government are now trying their best to downplay the incident, they alleged.

The women held a demonstration in front of the district collector’s office and sent a memorandum to the President of India and Odisha Governor seeking immediate measures to ensure peace in Manipur.

Sundargarh Mahila Forum leaders Shilpa Ekka, Merry Mamata, Lugina Dumdum and Geroti Khes among others spoke on the occasion. The agitators sought exemplary punishment against the people involved in violence against tribal women in Manipur.
