Work begins for Malkangiri airstrip in Odisha

Malkangiri: The construction work of an airstrip in Malkangiri district of Odisha was started today.

As the plan, the airstrip would be built on 95 hectares of land with an expenditure of Rs 33 crore.

The process for the airstrip project had been started in 2006.

The airstrip is being constructed within 5-km distance from the headquarters of Malkangiri district.

Around 95 hectares including forest land, government land and private plots have been identified for the project. The land acquisition process had been completed some days ago.

“As many as 2,200 trees will be felled for construction of the airstrip. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2023,” said an official.
