Work hard: Speakers tell SOA B-School students of Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Mar 13:

There is no substitute for working hard and maintaining the right attitude to be successful as a professional, speakers told a congregation of management students at the SOA University here on Friday.

SOA B-School “I’m learning everyday through my professional career and have found that hard work and the right attitude are the ingredients for success,” Tanmay Kumar Panda, HR Head of Universal Sompo General Insurance Co. Ltd., Mumbai, said while addressing the inaugural function of ‘Convergence-2015’, the annual function of the Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS).

Students representing B-Schools from different cities of Odisha are participating in the two-day program.

Stating that people who work hard get recognition and get into positions of authority, Panda asked the students to be disciplined and not to keep their work pending for the next day.

Banabas Acharya,  Assistant General Manager (HR) of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., who attended as the guest of honor, advised the students not to be fidgety about accepting job offers just because they have graduated from a reputed B-School.

“There is nothing wrong in accepting a job in any company because it will give you the much required experience. You can climb the ladder subsequently,” he said while reminding the audience that there were no short cuts to success.

Vice-Chancellor of SOA University, Prof (Dr) Amit Banerjee, who presided over the function, said ‘hard working’ students almost always stole a march over the ‘hardly working’ types. He urged the students to understand the importance of value in life.

Prof Jyotirmoy Mohapatra, Dean of IBCS and Prof Ganesh Prasad Das, coordinator of ‘Convergence-2015’ also spoke.

Lambodar Nial, a management student, was awarded a medal and certificate for winning a quiz contest organized in IBCS by the Business Standard on the occasion. Subhasis Behera and Ankita Srivastav, who finished second and third respectively, were also presented with medals and certificates.
