World Elephant Day: Signature campaign, competitions organised in Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: A signature campaign and several competitions were organised in both online and offline modes among visitors in Nandankanan Zoo on the occasion of 13th World Elephant Day, today.

According to an official source, three elephants namely Basanti, Heera and Mama were served fruits consisting of apple, maize, watermelon, coconut, banana and sugarcane at the elephant safari and shed here by the zoo authorities. A three-month-old baby elephant named ‘Abhi’, who has been kept separately away from the adult elephants, was also fed by the zoo staffers.

A large number of visitors and elephant lovers took part in quiz, drawing and slogan competitions organised on this occasion. All participants were given e-certificates and the winners who secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were felicitated with certificates of merit and awards as well.

Some mahouts were also honoured and a documentary film was shown on this occasion.

“It was an attempt to give a message on elephant safety,” deputy director Sanat Narayan said.
