‘Wrong injection’ claims villager’s life in Odisha’s Balangir; action sought against quack

Bhubaneswar: A villager died after he was reportedly administered a wrong injection by a quack in Balangir district of Odisha today.

The deceased has been identified as Shiv Mahanand of Chanabahal village under Muribahal police station in Balangir.

Mahanand sustained injuries on his leg while cutting firewood with an axe today morning.

His family members immediately contacted Pramod Kumar Mahakur, a quack of nearby Bagabahali village.

Mahanand allegedly fell unconscious soon after he was administered an injection by the quack. He was immediately rushed to a government-run hospital at Kantabanji. However, Mahanand was declared brought dead by the doctor, sources said.

Mahanand’s family members alleged that he was administered a wrong injection by the quack. They also urged the administration to take action against the quack.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident.

“Mahanand was brought dead to our hospital. His family told us that he fell unconscious after he was administered an injection by the quack. The body has been sent for postmortem. We will analyze the postmortem report to find out the exact reason behind his death,” said Debabrata Kumbhar, a doctor of Kantabanji Hospital.
