‘Wrong valuation’ of HSC Sanskrit paper irks many students

Reported by Chinmaya Dehury
Bhubaneswar, April 30:

Even as the Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) is patting itself on its back for having declared the HSC results on time, it has been flooded with complaints of wrong valuation in the examination that has left hundreds of students unhappy and angry. BSE Odisha

While these students were eagerly awaiting their results, their excitement turned into shock and disbelief when they saw their mark list on the internet.

Most students are complaining of wrong valuation in the Sanskrit subject. While they have scored well in the subjective paper, the results in the objective Sanskrit paper has been unbelievably low. Now these students and their parents have demanded re-evaluation of their papers immediately.

“I have performed very well and scored 91% in the HSC examination but I got only 15 marks in the objective paper of Sanskrit, which is just not possible. This is a completely wrong valuation by the BSE. It’s not me, my friends have too have got very poor marks in that paper. There is surely something very wrong somewhere,” said Sudipta Patnaik, a student from Bhubaneswar.

“I suspect unfair marking or some grave discrepancy in recording marks. I therefore request the Board to go for a thorough re-check of the answer papers,” said Rajiv Sahu, a student from Sambalpur.

However, the School and Mass Education department has decided to ask for re-valuation of the paper after receiving complaints from the aggrieved students.

“I have been informed that there is some wrong valuation in the Sanskrit paper. We have started the process to ratify it. The students can lodge complaints within three days and they will be given revised certificates along with other students,” said the secretary Usha Padhee.
