Year-round eco-cottages at selected tourist destinations in Odisha soon

Bhubaneswar: Considering the overwhelming response to eco-retreat events organised at different locations in Odisha, the state Government has begun the process to set up year-round eco-cottages at selected tourist destinations.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level virtual meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.

In the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed officials concerned to design, develop and maintain the cottages on PPP mode with credible private partners having experience in the trade.

“The state Government would extend all necessary assistance, including viable gap funding for setting up the cottages and other infrastructural support. Private partners would also be provided with handholding support for availing of different statutory permissions,” said the senior official.

It was also decided to select private partners through open bidding process and involve them as stakeholders from starting of the projects.

The meeting also had discussion on feasibility of developing such facilities at Kirakud, Baliput (Satkoshia), Paradip, Daringibadi, Pati Sonapur and Koraput. On pilot basis, the facilities will come up in Hirakud of Sambalpur district and Baliput (Satkoshia) in Cuttack district.

“Around six acres of land have already been identified at each of these two locations. An investment of Rs 6.5 crore has been estimated for each location,” informed Principal Secretary Vishal Dev.
