Yellow alert: Heavy rainfall, gusty wind very likely in these Odisha districts during next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Remal’ over North Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places in four Odisha districts during next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre here forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD said, “Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Remal’ over North Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwards, with a speed of 07 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 26th May 2024 over North Bay of Bengal near latitude 19.8°N and longitude 89.3°E about 260 Km south-southwest of Khepupara in Bangladesh, 310 Km south of Mongla in Bangladesh, 240 Km south-southeast of Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and 280 Km south-southeast of Canning (West Bengal). Currently, maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph prevails around the cyclone centre. It is very likely to continue to move nearly northwards, intensify further, and cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara, close to southwest of Mongla (Bangladesh) by midnight of today, the 26th May 2024 as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph.”

Southwest Monsoon further advanced into some more parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, and Northeast Bay of Bengal today, the IMD regional centre mentioned.

Temperature forecast: No large change in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next two days and a gradual rise by 2°C to 3°C thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 43.0°C was recorded yesterday at Nuapada. The lowest minimum temperature of 24.6°C was recorded at Sundargarh in the plains of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Interior Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj.

For Monday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 28.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
