Yellow alert: No respite from Heat Wave in these Odisha districts during next 5 days

Bhubaneswar: Despite the Southwest Monsoon setting in over Odisha, Heat Wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over several districts of Odisha during the next five days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD said, “Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of North Arabian Sea and some more parts of Maharashtra today, the 10th June, 2024. The Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/65°E, Dahanu, Nasik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E and Islampur. Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into more parts of north Arabian Sea, Some parts of South Gujarat and some more parts of Maharashtra during next 2 days.”

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 43.0°C was recorded yesterday at Nuapada and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 23.5°C was recorded at Boudh in the plains of Odisha.

Temperature Forecast: Gradual rise in the Maximum (day) temperature by 2°C to 3°C during next five days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, and Koraput.

Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, Nuapada, Bolangir, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Boudh.

Hot and humid weather condition is likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Puri.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
