Yellow alert: Thunderstorm, lightning, gusty wind very likely in Odisha districts during next 2 days

Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of Deep Depression over east-central Bay of Bengal which is very likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind is very likely to occur at one or two places in Odisha districts during the next 48 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD said, “The deep depression over east-central Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwards with a speed of 17 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of 25th May, 2024 over the same region near latitude 18.0°N and longitude 89.7°E, about 440 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), 440 km south-southeast of Sagar Islands (West Bengal) and 480 km south-southeast of Canning (West Bengal). It is very likely to continue to move nearly northwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around May 25 evening. Continuing to move further northwards, it would intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm by May 26 morning and cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara by May 26 midnight as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 110-120 gusting to 135 kmph.”

Temperature forecast: No large change in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next two days and a gradual rise by 2°C to 3°C thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 41.5°C was recorded yesterday at Bolangir. The lowest minimum temperature of 22.0°C was recorded at Nayagarh in the plains of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Boudh, and Nuapada.

Surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khurda.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.

For Sunday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 27.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, at many places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Interior Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jagatsinghpur.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Mayurbhanj.
