Yellow alert: Thunderstorm with lightning, hot & humid condition very likely in these Odisha districts on May 23

Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of a Low Pressure Area formed over Southwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha on May 23, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted today. However, 11 districts will witness hot and humid condition, the IMD said.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “A cyclonic circulation over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood has become less marked. Under the influence of the yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over Southwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST and persisted over the same region at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 22nd May, 2024. It is very likely to move northeastwards and concentrate into a Depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by morning of 24th May, 2024. It is likely to move northeastwards, intensify further and reach northeast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by 25th evening.”

Temperature forecast: Maximum (day) temperature is likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C during the next three days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 42.2°C and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 20.0°C were recorded yesterday at Nuapada in the plains of Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.

Hot and humid conditions are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
