Yet again another farmer has committed suicide in Odisha’s Jajpur district allegedly due to crop loss.

According to reports, Panchanan Dalei, a farmer of Daharkula village under Sahaspur panchayat in Jajpur district had allegedly consumed poison two days back after suffering severe crop loss.

Dalei, who was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, succumbed while undergoing treatment today, reports added.

Reportedly, the deceased farmer had cultivated groundnut and pointed gourd in three acres. He had borrowed Rs 80,000 from the local primary agricultural cooperative society and Rs 40,000 from a local self-help group (SHG) for farming.

Meanwhile, agitated over Dalei’s death, fellow villagers have blocked Bari-Baruan road demanding compensation for his family, reports further said.
