A new case of farmer suicide was reported from Odisha’s Bargarh this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran Pradhan from Kubedgera village under Bheden block of drought-hit Bargarh district.

Pradhan consumed pesticide last night in a bid to kill self and breathed his last while under treatment this morning.

He had cultivated paddy in about nine acres of his land apart from growing other crops as a sharecropper. He had been under stress following crop loss in the area owing to lack of irrigation facilities and poor rain, said a family member.

The family members of the deceased also said that he was under stress because of his inability to pay back the loans and demanded compensation from the government.
