Yet another infant branded with hot iron in Odisha

Yet another case of child branding has been reported in Odisha. An eight-month-old boy has been admitted to a government-run hospital here last night after his condition turned critical due to branding with a hot iron object to cure him of his ailment.

According to reports, the infant Pritam Singh suffered abdominal pain and bloating after which his family members allegedly branded him with a hot iron at 10 places on his body.

The incident took place at Renjeda village under Kamarposh Balang police station limits here few days ago.

Instead of getting any relief, the condition of the minor turned critical and was admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital last night.

Following the incident, the hospital authorities informed the local police. The police have swung into action and have initiated a probe into the matter.

It may be recalled that a month-old baby had died last month at Rupatola slum here who was also a victim of superstition.
