Young, affluent-looking girl caught on cam brazenly shoplifting in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A young, well-dressed and an affluent looking girl was caught on camera while allegedly shoplifting valuable ornaments from a jewellery shop in a busy market in Odisha capital.

The incident took place at Subhalaxmi Jewellers at Rajmahal Square located in the heart of the city just a few days back.

The CCTV camera installed inside the shop has captured the clever act of the twenty-something looking girl, who visited the shop in guise of a prospective customer.

In the CCTV footage, the girl wearing a black colored pant, pink top and a monkey cap with spectacles was seen entering the shop confidently and asked the salesman to show some items. Minutes after when the staff of the shop goes outside, the girl was seen putting some of the items into her monkey cap and leaving the store.

Interestingly, the girl reached another store in the same market to sell those stolen ornaments but the shop owner had denied. The girl left the spot immediately.

The girl, according to the shop owner, had stolen ornaments worth Rs 60,000. “She first asked me to show her gold rings weighing between 8 and 12 grams. But I went out of the workshop for some works, she stole two rings from my shop,” said the shop owner Manoranjan Swain.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Capital police station here on the basis of a complaint filed by the shop owner.

“We will examine the CCTV footage from the jewellery shop to ascertain her identity and other details of the accused,” said Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.

It may be recalled here that a lady doctor and her 50-year-old mother were arrested from their house in a posh area of Bhubaneswar in July 2015 for shoplifting fancy materials like sarees, dress materials and vanity bags from malls, boutiques and shops in the city.
