Young singers come up with new version of Odia classic ‘Ei Jhuma Jhuma…’

Bhubaneswar: Giving a contemporary feel to the popular Odia song Ei Jhuma Jhuma Golapi Belare, young musicians from Odisha have come up with a modern rendition of this song from the movie ‘Abhilasha’ starring Uttam Mohanty and Aparajita.

It was originally sung by well-known playback singers Hariharan and Arati Mukherjee.

While the original track was rhythmic, this one has a slower tempo. This music video has been produced by Bhubaneswar-based Loria Group of Units and B.Tech first-year student Sanchita Subhadarshini has lent her voice to it.

This is director Nihar Kant’s attempt to make the old Odia melodies popular among the youngsters. “I want to preserve these golden memories and tracks for the future generation,” he added.

“I had initially chosen some other song, but my parents suggested Ei Jhuma Jhuma Golapi Belare because it’s their favourite and one of the most popular tracks ever,” Sanchita said.

The music video will be released this month on Sachita’s YouTube channel. Their last video, Suna Ra Chadhei, which was a duet by Sanchita and Shashank Shekhar, had garnered 700k views. Shashank is now among the top 10 contestants in the singing reality show, Rising Star India.

“Our video Sathi Aji Mili Gala sung by Shashank had around one million views. I have also worked with Rituraj Mohanty for album ‘Alvidaa Jaan’ released on March 1,” Nihar added.

There are a few more music videos in the pipeline, he added.
