Young woman allegedly gangraped in Heads of Departments building in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly gangraped by two employees of state Health Department Sunday night in the nine-storey Heads of Departments building (aka Na’tala) in Odisha capital. However, no FIR has been lodged in this regard yet.

As per the media reports of a leading vernacular daily, the woman job aspirant from Sambalpur district was exploited on the false promise of providing employment with an alluring salary.

The department higher-ups brought the matter to the knowledge of the Commissionerate Police seeking intervention, after coming to know about the incident.

Police immediately reached the spot and picked up the accused senior clerk and driver the next morning for quizzing, who were then in an inebriated condition.

The accused duo had asked the victim to come to Bhubaneswar on the intervening day. Later, the young woman was taken to a chamber in the government office and was allegedly gangraped after the fall of night.

Even to the extent, the victim was threatened with dire consequences in case she discloses about the incident to anyone. A security guard, who was on duty, also allegedly supported the wrongdoers.

The young woman managed to flee the spot and narrate her plight to few other employees working at the Heads of Departments building.

To utter surprise, the accused duo was released after brief questioning as the gangrape survivor did not want to lodge an FIR.

Meanwhile, taking the matter seriously, Health department has placed the senior clerk under suspension and recommended action against the driver.

“We had to release the two accused persons, since the woman did not lodge any FIR over the incident,” Capital PS IIC Padmanava Pradhan was quoted by the newspaper.

Echoing the same views, the Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi maintained that no written complaint was lodged by the gangrape survivor.

Notably, the room where the victim woman was gangraped has been kept under lock and key.
