Young woman’s mutilated body found on riverbed in Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: Police recovered a mutilated body of young woman on a riverbed at Dekhali village under K Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Lata, aged about 21 years, daughter of Ladu Nayak of Dekhali village.
Source said the deceased had deep injury marks on face. The prima facie suggested that the young woman was murdered after rape.
According to reports, Lata and her mother had been to their farmland at around 11.00 am on Sunday. After finishing work, Lata went to the Keijodi River, situated around 100 metre away from the farmland, for taking bath. After she did not return for an hour, her mother was quite disturbed. She looked for her and found her daughter’s body lying on the riverbed in a pool of blood.
On receiving information, a team of police reached the site and initiated investigation. The body has been sent for autopsy to ascertain cause of death.
An unnatural death case has been registered at K Nuagaon Police Station. However, the family alleged that Lata was raped and then killed on the riverbed.
