Youth arrested on charges of ‘abduction and rape’

Bhubaneswar, May 4:

Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old youth for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl.

The accused identified as Amir Barik of Nirakarpur in Khurda district was nabbed from Akhuria of Gop area in Puri district.

According to the police, parents of 17-year-old victim of Khandagiri area had lodged a complaint with the local police on April 23 this year regarding abduction of their daughter. After 11 days’ manhunt, the police traced the victim along with the accused on Sunday.

Police sources said Barik was an Arts graduate and a tutor to the victim, who had appeared in the HSC examination this year. He had taken the girl to Puri and stayed with her at a rented house till he was nabbed by the police.

“Barik had established physical relationship with the girl several times although he was aware that the girl a minor,” the police sources said, adding, “After a medical test, the accused was booked under sections 363, 366 and 376 of IPC.”
