Youth arrested for opening fire at Namajagya member in Odisha’s Boudh

While the exact cause of the firing has not been established yet, preliminary investigation indicated past enmity between the two groups to have led to the act. 

Boudh: Police have arrested a youth on charges of firing gunshots at a Namajagya member during a kirtan on the occasion of Ram Navami in Odisha’s Boudh district on Wednesday. The victim Biswamitra Jani, was first rushed to the local hospital and later to Raipur as his condition deteriorated. The accused identified as Balabanta Nayak (21) of Sana Manamunda village of Khatkhatiya panchayat, was detained by villagers and later handed over to the police.

As per reports, a Namajagya procession was being organised for Ramnavami at Pipalpali village within Kantamal police limits when miscreants disrupted the celebrations by opening fire. The incident reportedly took place around 10 pm. Hearing gunshots, the crowd dispersed but Jani,  one of the organising members, suffered serious injuries  from the gun shot and collapsed. Locals nearby rushed him to Kantamal hospital but he was shifted to the district  headquarters hospital and and later to Raipur as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, police informed that a case has been registered and accused arrested. Investigation is underway.
