Youth arrested for raping minor in Odisha

Odisha police arrested a youth on Wednesday on charges of raping a minor girl on promise of marriage in Rayagada district.

The arrested youth has been identified as Manoj Dhuli of Subhadrapur village under Gunupur police limits in the district.

According to reports, Manoj had been raping the girl on the pretext of marriage.

The accused was eloping with the victim on January 3 with an ill intention, but was caught by the minor girl’s family members.

A meeting was arranged in the village following the elope attempt and it was decided in the meeting that the youth should marry the girl.

However, Manoj and his family did not agree with the decision.

Later, the victim’s father filed a complaint with police.

Police registered a case (23/17) and arrested the youth yesterday.

The accused will be forwarded to court today, said Nirmal Chandra Panigrahi, IIC, Gunupur police station.

Reacting in the incident, Manoj’s father said that as the girl was minor, she will be accepted as their daughter-in-law after she turns adult, but her family did not agree with the decision and filed the case.
