Youth arrested in Odisha capital for impersonating as SI

Commissionerate Police today arrested a youth for impersonating as a police Sub-Inspector and allegedly extorting money from bus drivers and conductors at Kalpana area under Badagada police limits in the Odisha capital.

The accused was identified as Adarsh Kumar Parida, a native of Atharanala in Puri district.

According to Badagada police sources, Parida was apprehended by a PCR van while trying to extort money at the Kalpana Square bus stop here. He was involved in extortion for the past few days pretending to be a sub-inspector. He used to collect Rs 10-Rs50 from each bus driver and conductor.

Suspicious about his identity after finding that his uniforms did not meet the specifications of police uniform, the police personnel manning the PCR van quizzed Parida about his place of posting, the concerned IIC and the zonal ACP. When the accused failed to give a convincing reply to any of the questions, the police arrested him.

After registering a case against Parida, police forwarded him to a local court here, police sources added.
