The youth, identified as Sukant Sahu, was rushed to the Capital Hospital here for treatment, but had to be shifted to SCB Medical College and hospital in Cuttack since the former does not have a burn unit. Capital Hospital sources said he has received 70 per cent burn in his body.

“After seeing smoke emanating from the house and the cry of the Sukant, we rushed near the door which was locked from inside. We brought out the victim and at the same informed the PCR van which rushed him to the hospital,” said a family member of the victim.

The reason behind the extreme step taken by Sukant is yet to be ascertained by the police.

The mother of the victim Urmila Sahu said her son had been mentally disturbed since many days and may have taken this drastic step due to this reason.
