Youth attempts to commit suicide in front of SP office in Odisha’s Ganjam, rescued

Berhampur: A youth today attempted to commit suicide by pouring an inflammable liquid on his body in front of the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Berhampur of Ganjam. However, policemen on duty at the office rescued the youth and an untoward incident could be averted.

The youth has been identified as Prashant Sethi, who hails from Jhada Ankuli village under Sadar police limits in the district.

According to police sources, the father of Prashant named Kora Sethi was allegedly murdered by some miscreants in 2021 and police had earlier arrested five of them in connection with the case.

A chargesheet was subsequently filed by the police probe team and the matter is now sub-judice in District Court. Out of the five arrested, two have already obtained bail from Orissa High Court.

However, Prashant was of the view that two more persons were involved in the crime. He has been demanding the arrest of those two others, for which the youth was being counselled.

All of a sudden, Prashant took an extreme step and attempted to end his life in the morning.

The youth has been detained at Baidyanathpur police station following his rescue, the source said.
