Youth beaten up in Odisha capital for mobile phone ‘theft’

Bhubaneswar: A youth was beaten up by locals on charges of a mobile phone theft from a woman in broad daylight in capital city today.

The incident was reported from Srikhestra Vihar under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar.

The locals caught the youth, who had allegedly stolen a mobile phone from a woman in morning hours, and thrashed him mercilessly.

The accused has been identified as Narendra Mohapatra

According to reports, the woman was on her way back to home when the suspected youth along with his two more associates on a scooter tried to snatch her phone. While they were trying to flee from the spot, their vehicle was hit by a car and they fell off.

Without making delay, the woman raised an alarm following which the locals caught the youth and started beating him up for the alleged theft. However, two of his aides managed to flee from the spot.

Later, the Khandagiri police reached the spot and arrested the accused to the police station and have seized the scooter.
