Youth crushed to death by elephant in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant in a forest area near Garposh under Bamara block in Sambalpr district last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Eka of Mahulmunda village.

Sources said Sunil was returning to his village from Dumbermunda, when  a herd of elephants came out of nowhere and attacked him. Later, one of the pachyderms crushed him to death.

Irate over the incident, locals staged a protest demanding compensation for family members of the deceased. On receiving information, Forest officials reached the spot to pacify the locals.
