Youth dies after being hit by train while making reels in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: A youth was killed on the spot as he was hit by a train while he was making reels on a railway track near Sabira station under Soro police limits in Balasore district.

The deceased was identified as Akshaya Patra, son of Punia Patra from Banitia village under Charampa police limits of Bhadrak district.

Akshaya was a Jatra (theatre) artiste. He used to dance on stage for a Jatra troupe. The youth had gone to Rahania village and was residing there for the last few days to perform solo dance along with others.

According to a source, Akshaya was hit from behind at around 4.00 pm. As he was absent-minded and busy in shooting the reels, he could not know that a train was coming on the railway track.

It is pertinent to mention here that trespassing across railway tracks is a punishable offence under Section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989 where either an imprisonment of up to six months and/or a fine of up to Rs 1 Thousand is leviable.

Section 147 of the Act reads, “If any person enters upon or into any part of Railway without lawful authority, or having lawfully entered upon or into such part misuses such property or refuses to leave, he shall be punishable either with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to Rs 1 Thousand, or both.”
