Kabisuryanagar: A youth was opened fire today afternoon by an unidentified miscreant near Jateswar pond under Kabisuryanagar NAC limits in Ganjam. He succumbed to bullet injuries on the spot.

The deceased was identified as Trinath Mallick, who belonged to Naisahi locality of the district.

According to a source, the firing incident occurred when Trinath was sitting on a dais near the pond. He sustained two bullet injuries on his head and died. However, the reason behind the firing has not been ascertained yet.

The miscreant fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.

On being informed by some locals, Purushottampur SDPO along with Kabisuryanagar police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident, which is underway.

Police have seized Trinath’s body and sent it to hospital for post-mortem.
