Youth follows Sholay-style, climbs atop high rise water tank to convince girl for marriage

Deogaon: In a bizarre incident and high-voltage drama, a youth climbed an overhead water tank today in his bid to commit suicide for convincing his lady-love to marry at Kuthurla village under Deogaon police limits in Bolangir. Later, he was rescued by a team of local fire services personnel.

The youth was identified as Pintu Haripal from Kuthurla village in the district.

According to a senior official in the police station, Pintu was in love with a girl from the Laltikra locality of Bolangir. With a motive to pressurise the girl, he climbed atop the tank located at the backside of Kuthurla upper primary (UP) school at around 8 am.

Seeing this, a number of villagers congregated at the spot and requested Pintu to come down. However, he did not pay any heed to their words and consumed something that he had in his pocket.

On being informed, a team of fire services personnel reached the spot and brought him down. They strived for more than an hour to rescue him in an unconscious condition.

Pintu was rushed to a government-run health facility in Deogaon for treatment. His condition is stable now. Police have launched a probe in this connection, the senior official informed.
