Youth hacked to death over ‘illicit affair’ in Odisha’s Keonjhar; woman detained

Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old youth was allegedly hacked to death over suspected illicit affair in Ghatagaon area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Bharat Bhusan Nayak of Khantaghara village in Keonjhar.

Nayak’s body was found in the rented house of a woman at Dhenkikot under Ghatagaon block today morning. Preliminary investigation suggested that Nayak was hacked to death with a sharp weapon, police said.

“Nayak was regularly visiting the woman’s house and he stayed with her last night. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her rented house today morning. His body bore several deep injuries,” said a local.

The villagers, meanwhile, claimed that another youth from Bhuban area of Dhenkanal had visited the woman’s house yesterday. Nayak and the other youth had an argument over some issues last night. Nayak might have been killed over illicit affair, they said.

The Ghatagaon police seized the body and sent it for postmortem after registering a case in this regard.

The woman has been detained for questioning, said a police officer.
