Youth hacks mother over family feud in Odisha; absconding

Angul: In a shocking incident, a youth attempted to kill his mother by hacking her with a spade over family feud in Handapa police station area in Angul district today. However, the woman was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Sources said the youth identified as Kartikeswar of Anandamunda village had a war of words with his mother Kaninta Behera over some family dispute this morning. In a fit of rage, Kartikeswar attacked his mother with a spade leaving her critically injured. Soon after incident, the accused fled the spot.

Later, some neighbours rushed the woman to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. Doctors said she has sustained grievous injuries in her face and head.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and have started an investigation into the incident. Search is on to nab the accused, police said.
