Youth hangs self after killing father in Odisha’s Nuapada

Nuapada: An elderly man was allegedly crushed to death by his son with a stone in Gatibeda village under Komna police station limits of Nuapada district today. Later the son committed suicide by hanging self from a tree branch.

The elderly man, identified as Rama Singh Majhi was sitting along with son Deba Charan Majhi near their under-construction Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) house located at the threshing yard this afternoon. Locals said Deba Charan was in inebriated condition and got irked during discussion with his father over some family dispute.

In a fit of rage, Deba Charan crushed Rama Singh to death with a stone. Later the accused climbed a tree some 500 meters away from the spot. He then ended his life by hanging self from the tree branch with a rope.

Younger son of Rama Singh lodged a police complaint at Komna police station in connection with this. As the village is situated in Maoist-affected areas, police today failed to reach the spot.

A cop said police team will seize the bodies tomorrow and send them for post mortem.
