Youth held for duping, raping minor girl on pretext of marriage in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baisinga: A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage and duping her later here in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The accused has been identified as Gourang Singh, 20, a resident of Baisinga Police Station area in Mayurbhanj district. He has been booked under POCSO Act on complaint of the victim.

According to reports, Gourang Singh, the son of Ghunguria Singh, had established physical relationship with a minor girl of his village on the promise of marriage. Later, the girl came to know that the youth was also in a relationship with one of her cousins and he wanted to marry that girl.

When she asked the youth about the fact, the latter confessed that he has physical relationship with her cousin, the victim alleged.

With no option left, the victim lodged a written complaint with the police against the youth.

Based on the complaint, the Baisinga police registered a case against the accused youth under sections 320 of IPC and 22 of POCSO Act and arrested him from his village. He was forwarded to a local court today following arrest.
