Youth held for impregnating Class VIII girl student in Odisha’s Rayagada

Gunapur: A youth was arrested in Odisha’s Rayagada district today for allegedly impregnating a minor girl. Based on a complaint filed by the minor girl’s father, the Gunapur Police arrested one Brindaban Kadraka.

As per the complaint, the 13-year-old girl is studying Class VIII at a residential school in Ramanaguda block. As the school remained closed since March 25, 2020 in view of coronavirus, the minor girl was staying at home. However, she used to go to her aunt’s place in night to have dinner and sleep there.

Taking advantage of the situation, the girls’ neighbour, Brindaban Kadraka established sexual relationship with her since past 10 months. Even though the girl became pregnant, her family members did not get any clue.

Yesterday evening, when the girl complained of stomach pain her family members hired a vehicle and took her to the Ramanaguda Community Health Centre. On the way to the hospital, the minor gave birth to a baby girl in the vehicle. Both the minor girl and her baby were admitted to the Ramanaguda hospital in critical condition.

After being informed, the Child Welfare Committee, the District Child Protection and the Childline officials visited the girl’s village and met her family members.

Sources said the Gunapur police will record the minor girl’s statement at the Ramanaguda hospital tomorrow.
