Youth killed by slitting throat with sharp weapon in Odisha’s Angul

Purunakote: Unidentified miscreant(s) killed a youth by slitting his throat when he was sleeping in a stilt house late yesterday night at Olabira village under Purunakote police limits in Angul district.

The deceased was identified as Biswanath Bargia, who belonged to the Olabira village.

According to a police source, the victim was in the stilt house near his farmland in the evening to guard his sweet potato crop from animals and later went to sleep. The farmland is located in the close vicinity of his residential house. However, he was attacked with a sharp weapon leading to his death.

Writhing in pain, Biswanath ran up to his residential house by firmly pressing the wound with his hand and screaming for help. Later, the youth collapsed in front of it due to severe bleeding.

The miscreant(s) fled from the spot soon after committing the crime, a senior police official said.

On being informed by Biswanath’s family, Purunakote police reached the spot and launched a probe. Police have registered a case in this connection and sent the body to a hospital for post-mortem.

“It has not been ascertained why the youth was killed. A probe is underway,” the official said.
