Youth killed in group clash over petty matter in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj; probe initiated

Baripada: A youth was allegedly killed in broad daylight in a group clash that erupted at Sunagadia locality under Town police limits in Mayurbhanj district, today.

The deceased was identified as Rama Mukhi, who belonged to Ward No-20 under this civic limit.

“My three brothers had gone to a nearby water body to take a bath. On the way, they saw a money purse that had fallen on the road with Rs 550 in it and brought it home. After learning about this, some youths came to our house and claimed the purse. My brothers returned the purse and Rs 550 along with it. The youths scolded saying there was Rs 1,300 in the purse,” the deceased’s sister Gudu Mukhi said.

“Pintu Mukhi, Bula Mukhi, Arjun Mukhi, Dipu Mukhi, Bullet Mukhi, Mithun Mukhi, and Babu Mukhi along with several others came to our house with sharp weapons and roughed up me and my elder sister-in-law, who was pregnant. The youths attacked my elder brother leaving him dead,” Gudu stated.

“Five other members of my family have also been injured in the murderous attack,” Gudu added.

On being informed, Town police registered a murder case in this connection and launched a probe. Police have detained two accused persons and they are being interrogated at Town PS.

Tension flared up in nearby areas following the group attack and alleged murder.
