Youth kills self after losing more than Rs 1 lakh in online games in Odisha’s Balasore

Soro: A 19-year-old youth died by suicide yesterday at Guda village and this panchayat under Soro police limits in Balasore district after losing over Rs 1 lakh and his mental balance.

According to a police source, the deceased was identified as Udaya Kumar Behera, who was studying in Plus III 2nd-year at AB College of Basudevpur. Udaya used to stay in the college hostel and had come to his parent’s house two days ago.

Udaya was playing online games at home, to which his mother had objected several times. He was remaining upset most of the time because of the financial loss that he had incurred. The youth went to sleep yesterday at around 10.30 pm after having his dinner. His mother spotted him today morning while hanging from the ceiling fan in his room with the help of a napkin.

Later, the youth was rescued and taken to a hospital in Soro where doctors declared him ‘dead’.

On being informed, Soro police reached the spot and seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem. Police have registered a U/d case in this connection and launched a probe.
