Youth kills woman over unrequited love, attempts suicide in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly hacked a woman to death over unrequited love and later attempted suicide in Kashipur block of Odisha’s Rayagada district here today. The incident was reported from Osapada village within Tikiri police limits. The deceased was identified as Rima Majhi, a daily wage labourer from Samnatikona village. Accused Rasika Pradhani,who belonged to Mundagaon, was rescued by police and rushed to the hospital. He is critical and under treatment.

Sources said Rasika was in love with Rima but was distressed over the fact Rima was not reciprocating to his advances and her family members had declined his marriage proposal as theydid not approve of their relationship. This had built up tension between the duo. On Saturday, Rima had come to work at a construction site at Osapada.

At around 2 pm, Rasika approached her and the two of them apparently had an ugly spat. As the exchange got uglier, Rasika took a sharp weapon and slit Rima’s throat. When her fellow workers rushed to her rescue, he attacked them one of them and then slit his own throat. Police on getting information reached the spot and rushed Rasika to the nearest Utkal hospital. He was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital after his condition deteriorated.

Police have seized the body for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.
