Youth pretending to be naval officer blackmails girl by uploading intimate photos & videos, arrested

Bhubaneswar: A youth was arrested today by Commissionerate Police here for allegedly blackmailing a girl by uploading photos and videos of their intimate moments on different social media. The accused had developed a close relationship by impersonating him to be a naval officer on a matrimonial site.

The accused has been identified as Soumyaranjan Mishra.

According to a source, Soumyaranjan had previously opened a fake account on the matrimonial site. After seeing his profile, the victim girl and her family contacted the youth. Subsequently, a proposal for the marriage of the girl with the youth was initiated and finalised by both families.

The trickster gradually got closer to the girl and captured some photos and videos on his mobile phone. The marriage proposal was terminated at a later stage when the girl’s family knew about the falsehood of Soumyaranjan. Following this, he started blackmailing the girl.

Acting on an FIR lodged by the victim’s family at Mahila PS in Bhubaneswar, the youth was arrested. Police have launched a detailed probe into the allegations, which are underway.
