Cuttack: Tension prevailed and vehicular movement was disrupted in Narasinghpur block of Odisha's Cuttack district here today, after irate villagers staged a road blockade at Abhimanpur square on Athargarh-Narasinghpur State Highway 65 over the tragic death of a youth in an accident and demanded compensation  for the bereaved family.

The deceased, identified as Bapi Dehuri of Abhimanpur village, was reportedly crushed to death by a truck during a procession for immersion of Ganesh idol on Wednesday night. As per reports, Bapi was run over by a 10-wheeler while he was dancing to DJ music in the procession . The vehicle, which was coming at a high speed, hit and crushed him under the wheels before speeding away.

While Bapi died on the spot, locals from his village took to the streets the following day and blocked the entire state highway demanding justice for the family.

On getting information, police reached the spot and held discussions with the agitators. The blockade was called off after the villagers were pacified and assured of needful action.

Official sources informed that the truck has been seized and the accuse driver detained. Further investigation is underway.
