Marshaghai: A youth sustained grievous injuries after being gunshot by two unidentified miscreants at Mangala Chhak on NH-53 under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district, today.

The youth was identified as Shakti Chandan Mohanty, who hails from Mahira village of Jagatsinghpur district. He works as a supervisor in a private organisation.

According to a police source, the fatal mishap occurred at around 5.30 pm when Shakti was on his way elsewhere riding a bike. The miscreants on a motorcycle (Royal Enfield Bullet) intercepted him and attempted to snatch from him a bag that he was carrying.

As Shakti resisted, the miscreants fired at him on his belly and fled from the spot.

Some locals rescued the victim from a pool of blood and rushed him to district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Kendrapara for treatment. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Marsaghai police reached the DHH and launched a probe.
