Hindol: Two bike-borne miscreants opened fire today at a youth at Nuabaga Chhak under Hindol civic limits in Dhenkanal district. The victim later succumbed while undergoing treatment in hospital.

The deceased was identified as Subash Sahu (24), who belonged to Mahalunda village of this panchayat under Balimi police limits of the district. Subash was the son of Trinath Sahu.

According to a police source, Subash had gone to Hindol locality for some personal work. He was chased by the miscreants at around 4.00 PM and was shot at from behind near a local Shani Temple when he was on his way back home. The incident is said to be a fallout of political enmity.

Subash sustained two injuries on the left side of his chest in the incident. As a result, the youth collapsed on the ground. Some locals with the help of police overpowered one of the accused and captured him. However, the other managed to flee from the spot and hid in a nearby forest.

Police recovered and seized a billhook and an axe from the possession of the arrested.

“Subash was working as a staffer in the watershed division office of Water Resources department in Mahalunda. During the last election, he was supporting a particular political party. Hence, he was shot dead to take revenge by the supporters of another political party,” some of his friends expressed.

The captured miscreant is a man from Bihar, the deceased’s acquaintances added.
