Miscreants on Friday night opened fire at a youth here over suspected past enmity.

As per eyewitness accounts, the injured victim, identified as Santosh, had a heated exchange of words with a group of individuals following which they fired four rounds of bullets at him.

Santosh, who hails from Tamulia in Baleswar, has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

‘‘We suspect the incident is a fallout of past rivalry. The offenders have not been identified. We have registered a case and have initiated an inquiry into the matter,’’ IIC of Baleswar Sadar police station Chandan Ghadei said.
