Youth’s death sparks tension in Odisha’s Nuapada

Khariar: Residents of Sandhibahali village of Nuapada district today gheraoed the Khariar police station demanding compensation for family of a youth killed in road mishap.

The youth, identified as Kodanda Barik (20) was returning home last night when two bikers hit him from behind. Kodanda was admitted to Khariar Community Health Centre and later shifted to Mission Hospital. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment today.

Later family members of the deceased and villagers staged protest in front of the Khariar police station. After receiving information, Additional Tehsildar Tapan Kumar Nayak visited the agitators and handed over Rs 10,000 to the youth’s family from Red Cross Fund.

This apart, local sarpanch gave Rs 2,000 to the bereaved family from Harischandra Yojana.

Police have detained the two bikers and investigation is on.
