ZP Chairperson polls stayed in Odisha’s Nuapada, Malkangiri

The Orissa High Court has issued interim stay on holding of election to the posts of Chairperson of Zilla Parishads of Nuapada and Malkangiri districts until further orders.

 

 

According to reports, the matter pertaining to the dispute over panchayat delimitation in Zone-II of Komana block in Nuapada district is in the High Court.

Adjudicating on the matter, the High Court had issued stay order on the holding of panchayat election in Komana block as a result of which the State Election Commission had not held election in Zone-II.

Zilla Parishad member of Zone –XII in Sinapalli block of the district Giriraj Majhi citing the above had moved the High Court that election to post of Chairperson of Zilla Parishad cannot be held.

The Court while issuing an interim stay order on the holding of election to the post of Chairperson of Zilla Parishad in Nuapada district has fixed the next date for hearing in the matter for March 17.

Similarly, since election was not held in two zones in the cut-off region of Chitrakonda, the court yesterday stayed holding of election to the post of Chairperson of Zilla Parishad in Malkangiri district.
