1.87 lakh cases pending in Orissa High Court: Minister

Bhubaneswar: As many as 1.87 lakh cases were pending in Orissa High Court (HC) till October 31, 2021, informed Law Minister Pratap Jena in the State Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to a question raised by Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Souvik Biswal, the Minister said while 1,87,028 cases were pending in Orissa HC, as many as 17,68, 704 were awaiting disposal across the state till October 31, 2021. In the last three years, total 8,95,412 cases have been disposed, he added.

The Minister further informed that Orissa HC has formed Arrears Committee and Mission Mode Committee for speedy trail of the pending cases. Besides, the HC has directed the district Judges for the same.

“The state Government is taking steps to establish various courts across the state on phased manner and ensure prompt justice to people through Lok Adalats,” Jena said in the written reply.

The Winter Session of Odisha Assembly witnessed pandemonium for the sixth day in a row today with members of opposition parties staging protests demanding dismissal of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra in Mamita Meher murder case. Following the disruption, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 4 pm today.
